Laser Therapy is an FDA approved, noninvasive procedure that uses specific wavelengths of light to stimulate cells and increase blood circulation. It has been used extensively in humans and now we are able to extend the benefits of the treatment to your pets. MLS refers to the Multiwave Locked System; this specific laser synchronizes two wavelengths of light, one that pulsates and one that’s fixed. The various therapeutic effects not only take place at the same time but reciprocally reinforce each other.
The benefits of MLS Laser Therapy include:
- Relief of chronic pain such as arthritis
- Relief of acute pain such as trauma or injury
- Strong anti-inflammatory effect
- Stimulates healing of damaged tissue
- Speeds recovery of the structural integrity of the injured region.
The procedure is based on the idea that light is absorbed into the cells. Light energy enters the damaged cells and stimulates inter-cellular activity in the cells that it hits. This reduces pain in the area, decreases swelling and inflammation, increases circulation, and can promote relaxation of the muscles. The procedure also releases endorphins, or natural pain killers. MLS Laser Therapy is extremely safe with little to no side effects when used properly.
MLS Laser Therapy is a painless treatment and your pet will likely not feel anything. There may be a slight warming sensation. Treatment time will vary by pet, but the average treatment is 10-15 minutes; protective eye goggles are included!
Often patients will experience positive results after just one treatment and most acute conditions will improve after one to three treatments. More chronic conditions may have protocols that range from six to ten treatments. The treatments are cumulative and are delivered 2-3 times per week for 2-3 weeks and can then be managed on a monthly basis.
MLS Laser Therapy, introduced at Danada Veterinary Hospital in 2014, is a beneficial treatment modality that can be used in place of, or with, traditional medicines depending on your pet’s condition. We can help provide relief to those animals suffering with:
- Joint Pain
- Hip Dysplasia
- Sterile Cystitis
- Severely Chronic Ear Disease
- Lick Granuloma
- Disk Disease
